Crowns

In cases where CEREC 3D can’t be used, a permanent covering called a crown may need to be fitted onto the tooth. Crowns are designed to reshape and realign existing teeth and can be made of porcelain, gold and other metals, acrylic resin, or a mix of these materials. Porcelain crowns have the most realistic appearance.

During your first visit, the decay in or around the tooth affected is removed and the tooth painlessly re-sculpted to provide an easy fit for the crown. An impression of your teeth is taken and sent to a dental laboratory for a permanent, custom crown to be made. This usually takes around two weeks and, in the meantime, a temporary crowns made of an acrylic resin is fitted over the tooth. On your next visit, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown fitted cemented into place. With the proper care, crowns should last several years, and may even last a lifetime.

If you have received a letter from Dental Works to join our Dental Plan and choose not to do so, please be reassured YOU ARE STILL A VALUED PATIENT AT THE PRACTICE and can be seen on an independent basis, with no further action required.
